My Multilayered Approach to Academic Success
The pre-teen and teen years can be challenging under the best of circumstances. For adolescents with learning differences, life may become even more complex. As an Educational Therapist, I guide elementary, middle, high school, and college students towards understanding and appreciating their unique brains. My practice offers a wide range of individualized interventions that are designed to remediate these specific learning issues.
I guide the student towards educational success by helping the student to:
-
Recognize academic strengths and challenges
-
Build executive functioning skills
-
Develop learning strategies based on the student’s learning styles
-
Build self-confidence, self-awareness, and self-efficacy
-
Engage in the learning process by understanding how he or she thinks
-
Learn to organize and manage time
-
Incorporate a set of thinking, problem solving, and self-control skills
By working together, we can help them become active and engaged learners through:
-
Assessments: Formal and informal
-
Synthesis of information from other allied professionals
-
Development and implementation of a structured remedial program
-
Creation of strategies that address emotional and social challenges as they relate to learning challenges
-
Form a supportive collaboration among the student, parents, Educational Therapist, and other professionals
-
Facilitate communication amongst the student’s support team members
